We flew to Rimini for a pleasant weekend, where we spent most of our time on the endless sandy beach, enjoying the sunshine and the amazing delicacies of the beach restaurants and bars. However, Rimini is not only about modern beach life, as its history dates back to ancient times, when in 268 BC the Romans founded a colony here called Ariminum, which became a key base for important northern campaigns and trade. Today, the city can still admire the remains of the Roman era, such as the Arch of Augustus or the Tiberius Bridge, and in the Middle Ages, the powerful Malatesta family made the settlement a cultural and artistic center. The transformation of the city into an elegant seaside resort began in the mid-19th century, and although World War II caused serious destruction within the walls, Rimini was rebuilt to become one of the most popular seaside paradises in Europe.
