One of the last stops on our Carinthian trip was the Villacher Alpenstraße, which provided a real alpine experience!
The Villach Alpine Road is a classic, scenic panoramic toll road that winds for 16.5 kilometers from Villach near the summit of the Dobratsch Mountain to the Rosstratte parking lot at an altitude of 1,732 meters. The road has a total of 116 bends and several sharp hairpin bends, while constantly climbing, revealing new, stunning views to visitors with every meter.
The real attraction of the road to the mountain is the incredible panorama. From various stopping points, you can admire the surrounding landscape.
In clear weather, the horizon extends to the lakes of Carinthia (such as Faaker See and Lake Wörth), the Drava Valley, the neighboring Italian Julian Alps and the Slovenian Karavankä. The Rosstratte is the highest point accessible by car. There is a cozy restaurant with a fantastic view and it is the starting point for several hiking trails that lead up to the Dobratsch peak (2167 m).
This trail was the perfect end to our Carinthian adventures, as we could look back from the mountain and take in the entire region once more.
