After the automotive wonders of the Porsche Museum, our Austrian trip continued with a more peaceful, nature-oriented stop in Seeboden, where we also visited the Bonsai Museum.
This center, located near Millstätter See, is one of Europe’s largest and oldest bonsai centers, and has been welcoming visitors since 1976. The museum was founded by Günther Klösch, who built up and cares for the collection with heart and soul. Klösch’s work and commitment to Japanese culture were recognized in 2017 with the Order of the Rising Sun, which was awarded to him by the Emperor of Japan.
The real attraction of the museum, which covers an area of approximately 10,000m², is the more than 3,000 bonsai, including many masterpieces that are over 100 years old. The miniature trees are presented in the framework of classic Japanese Zen gardens, which invite the visitor to calmness and introspection, demonstrating the timelessness and patience inherent in bonsai.
