The day after our trip to Bad Kleinkirchheim, we wanted a slightly different experience: we replaced nature walks with car wonders and visited the Porsche Museum in the Carinthian town of Gmünd. Gmünd is a special place, as it is the town where the very first Porsche cars (the legendary Porsche 356) were produced between 1944 and 1950.
It was fantastic to see the early and iconic pieces of sports car production in the museum! The exhibition provides a short but exciting insight into the history of the brand, and the supercars were simply breathtaking.
The Porsche Museum in Gmünd was founded in 1978 by local Porsche enthusiast Helmut Pfeifhofer.
Helmut Pfeifhofer was not only a collector, but also a true master car mechanic and a keen historian. He established the museum with the intention of preserving and presenting the special role of Gmünd in Porsche history. He collected the historical documents and vehicles that are still on display today, thus commemorating the brand’s Carinthian roots. Although it is a private museum, it is still closely connected to the local community and Porsche history.
