The adventure began in Cebu. After the landing of the Cebu Pacific flight, we went to our accomodation to sleep only two hours in the middle of night, just to wake up around 4am to start our journey to the southern part of the island, heading to Moalboal. This small town is world-famous among divers and snorkelers, and we soon understood why: the phenomenon waiting along the coast, the so-called sardine run, was breathtaking. Millions of silvery fish moved in a single, living, pulsating formation, while we watched the fascinating choreography taking place in the depths.
Next came nature’s true playground: Aguinid Falls. This is not a simple waterfall, but a natural complex consisting of eight separate, interconnected steps, which was a real adventure to explore. We climbed ropes, balanced on rocks, and let the cool water massage us. During the tour, deep in the jungle, I noticed Hungarian words – and incredibly, I ran into my compatriot for the first time during my months in the Philippines!
At the end of the day, we rested in Oslob, and here the impossible happened again. Arriving at the hotel, my wife immediately noticed someone, miracle of miracles, we stumbled upon another old acquaintance at the end of the world.
Early the next morning, we set off for the world-famous whaleshark watching. We approached the site with rowing boats, then slipped into the water to swim with the largest fish on Earth, the majestic whale shark. These gentle giants glided past us like peaceful, giant shadows – it was an experience that was a worthy end to our trip to Cebu.
